Via the 580 we came on the freeway 5 to the south. Lenore had planned a stay-over at Bakersfield, where we arrived at 20.45. Next day we left Bakersfield at 08.45 hr. via the 58 and in Barstow we took the freeway 40. The landscaping was beautiful and changed continuously. Suddenly on the horizon we saw on the top of hills hundreds and hundreds of windmills.
After a few stops and passing the Arizona border we arrived at 16.00 hr. in Williams. The Best Western Hotel was surrounded by snow. We had dinner in a restaurant, while it was snowing outside. Lucky we, the air-conditioning unit in the rooms produces also warm air.
On Thursday morning, prepared to resist the cold, we left warm dressed Williams to go to see the Grand Canyon. At the airport, that we reached over the 64 and 180, it was clear that our preparation for the cold was done for nothing. 
Most of the warm clothes were put back in the car, when we saw the pilot in short sleeves. With Lenore and Bep sitting besides the pilot in the front, we did a 50 minutes helicopter flight over the Grand Canyon. We were very lucky because the weather was excellent and the sky clear. The view was amazing and very impressive.
In the afternoon we took road 180 to Flagstaff and visited there the Northern Arizona Museum. Flagstaff is a nice and very busy city. We had a coffee break in a coffee-shop called “ Late for the Train”. During our short visit we saw a number of trains with more than 50 wagons loaded with double stocked containers. We left Flagstaff at 18.00 hr. for the second night stay in Williams.
